Eboard Officer Election Bylaw mistake
|
|
Brothers & Sisters,
It has been brought to my attention as both the General Secretary and Election Committee Chair (for last election) that Section 10 para E. of our Local's By-laws was not followed. Which states: "If no candidate receives a majority of the ballots cast, there shall be a run-off election at the December general meeting between the two candidates who recieved the most votes". This by-law only applies in situations where more than two candidates are running for the same position. This past election, this did occur for the vacany of 2nd City Trustee that Brother Fetty was incorrectly declared the winner for. Remember, Brothers Goodyear, Cruz and Fetty were all candidates. Using percentages, Brother Fetty did not receive more than 50% of the votes and thus he did not receive the majority of the ballots cast. As a result there could have been a run-off between Brothers Fetty and Cruz in December. This same scenario has happened before a few years ago and one of the Brothers decided to concede and not pursue a run-off.
Today, GP Cheney, under the direction of our 10th District Representative, spoke wtih Brothers Cruz and Fetty. Brother Cruz made it clear that he concedes the election to Brother Fetty. As a result, a run-off is no longer required.
Thank you,
GS Lopez
