Memorial Day Murph

This year Albuquerque Fire Rescue will be hosting an Inaugural AFR Memorial Day Murph on Monday May 30th at the Training Academy. The Murph Challenge is in honor of Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor Recipient Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who died in combat while attempting to radio headquarters during a firefight. This event will be for AFR members only, with refreshments provided after the completion of the workout. AFR family members are welcomed to attend. There will be four heats consisting of 25 people participating at a time. Firefighters willing to participate will be able to sign-up via VectorSolutions. Heats will be scheduled 1 hour apart starting at 0730, 0830, 0930, and 1030. Personnel on shift can also attend as long as it is coordinated with their respective Battalion Chief.

The Workout: " Murph" consists of wearing a 201b vest for men, 141b vest for women, and completing the following: 

  • 1 Mile run 
  • 100 Pull-ups 
  • 200 Push-ups 
  • 300 Air Squats 
  • 1 Mile run 

You are not required to wear a vest while completing the workout, however, if you wish to do so, you will be required to bring your own vest. This workout is very demanding on the body and we encourage anyone willing to participate to start training the movements weekly to avoid injury.
