Brothers & Sisters,
Can you spare your lunch money for one shift? The reason we ask is, this simple sacrifice could make a huge difference in a sweet young ladie's life. Consider the following: if every one of our fine members were to give $10, the total amount raised could exceed the goal set by Mr. and Mrs.
Pursuant to Resolution 7 adopted at the 2014 IAFF Convention in Cincinnati, the per capita tax for active members shall increase by nine cents, effective October 1, 2015. The IAFF continues to use the funds we entrust them with to provide programs and services for all of our members. Through a variety of non-per capita revenue-generating programs and our continued efforts to keep costs down. The overall increase will amount to .04¢ per pay period, which will go into effect on paychecks beginning in October 2014; this Per Capita increase is in accordance with our Bylaws, Article IV, Section 5.
In an effort to raise money for our Firefighters Survivor Fund (FSF) and the Membership Assistance Program (MAP) we are holding a Car Wash at Imbibe (3101 Central Ave NE) September 27th 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Come out and have your car or motorcycle washed...
No matter how many years pass, the IAFF will always remember and never forget that dark day in 2001 when thousands of Americans died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, IAFF members responded with incredible courage to the Pentagon and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, which claimed the lives of 343 FDNY fire fighters.
“Today, we once again remember those fire fighters who faced down unspeakable horror in defense of their fellow citizens,” says General President Harold Schaitberger. “We remember them and we honor their service with an unbending commitment to ensure the safety and security of all of our brothers and sisters.”
In the days, weeks and months that followed that tragic day, thousands of fire fighters -- along with hundreds of others -- assisted in the recovery efforts on the pile, and many have since died or become ill as a result of exposure to toxins at Ground Zero.
The IAFF continues to fight for treatment for 9/11 health issues as a result of that toxic pile by working to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act to reauthorize the World Trade Center Health Program and the September 11 Victims Compensation Fund, which provide health monitoring, treatment and compensation for 9/11 responders and survivors in all 50 states.
The IAFF Local 244 General Election will be held December 8, 2015 from 7:00am-7:00pm
Nominations for the 2015 General Election officially open at the General Membership Meeting on September 10, 2015 and will close at the General Membership Meeting on November 12, 2015.
President Diego Arencón and Mr. Tony Shangler of Volere, Inc., developed the concept for the IAFF Local 244 Ring in 2012. Years of thought and sentiment were put into designing this ring with the intent of representing unity, loyalty and commitment symbolizing our bond as brothers and sisters of the International Association of Fire Fighters. These hand crafted rings are heirloom quality to last for generations to come. The ring was presented to IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger and the IAFF Executive Board. It was approved and officially licensed by the IAFF. Local 244 first introduced the “retirement ring” last year as a retirement gift, honoring our brothers’ and sisters’ service to the IAFF throughout their careers. Now, Mr. Shangler has created the “duty ring” which is available for IAFF members to purchase. A portion of the proceeds go toward the IAFF Charitable Foundation and the IAFF Local 244 Fire Fighters Survivors Fund. We encourage you to visit the website, www.iaffrings.net
The Gym Bag was developed by IAFF Local 244 Members Seferino Vigil and Eddie Gutierrez. Seferino and Eddie have been working in the health and wellness industry for 15 years and have come together to offer significant savings exclusively for IAFF brothers and sisters. Working closely with the nutritional supplement industry they are able to bring to our members the lowest prices for the highest quality products on the market! A percentage of proceeds will be donated to the IAFF Local 244 Firefighters Survivor Fund. Call Eddie 505-379-7723 or Sef 505-417-4007 for more information.
