The Back to School Expo headed by the Meriden Fire Fighters, Local 1148, this community event has been a local event for the last 11 years, originally started by Beat the Street Community Center founder, Larry Pelletier. In 2013, the event was on the verge of not being sponsored or funded by Beat the Street.
Christopher Van Loo appointed as Saginaw's new fire chief

  SAGINAW, MI — After about three years without a full chief at the helm, the Saginaw Fire Department now has a new head officer in Christopher Van Loo. Van Loo, who has been serving as acting chief since September 2013, has been appointed chief of the department by City Manager Tim Morales, according to a press release from the city of Saginaw.

MIDDLETOWN — The proposed layoff of 11 Middletown firefighters, which was scheduled to begin Aug. 30, was averted after the city and the firefighters union came to a tentative agreement, City Manager Doug Adkins announced Tuesday night.

 Tuesday August 05, 2014 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A two-alarm fire on Daniels Avenue late Monday night ripped through three-story building and left two firefighters reeling from heat exhaustion. According to the report by Deputy Chief Bruce Kilmer, firefighters responded with five engines and a ladder truck to the 133 Daniels Ave. about 10:37 p.m.

Borrowed from iberkshires.com with permission PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Lightning stuck an Onota Street home Tuesday night, setting it on fire and damaging the electrical systems. According to Deputy Chief Michael Polidoro, three engines responded to a structure fire at 24 Onota St. and upon arrival found a small fire.

Grass fire south of Suffield

At least 7 fire departments and over 100 firefighters are out west of Redcliff this evening, battling multiple grass fires.   Cypress County’s Deputy Fire Chief Ray Gradwell says there are 7 different grass fires in the area, most of which were started by lightning. As of 8 o’clock Thursday evening, they were being held.
Fire pots may be unsafe if not used properly

The Medicine Hat Fire Department has sent out an immediate release that says fire pots can be a danger if not used properly. Three people were taken to hospital last week after a fire pot exploded because proper fuel had not been used resulting in the explosion.
Pedestrian in Hospital following collision on Scholten Hill

Scholten Hill was shut down during the morning commute when a pedestrian was hit by a truck. Around 8:30 this morning, a 65 year old man was crossing Carry Drive at Crestwood Drive when he was hit by a Ford F-150. The truck was turning left onto Carry Drive at the top of Scholten Hill. Police say the sun may have been a factor in obstructing the view of the driver.
